Andrew Garfield acaba ‘exhausto’ tras cada representación de ‘Angels in America’

Aunque el actor Andrew Garfield se siente todo un “privilegiado” por la oportunidad de haber devuelto a la escena teatral de Broadway la aclamada obra ‘Angels in America’ y, sobre todo, por el reto mayúsculo que afronta diariamente al dar vida al personaje central de esta historia sobre la estigmatización de la homosexualidad en la década de los ochenta, al mismo tiempo el intérprete confiesa no estar disfrutando demasiado de la experiencia por lo “agotador” que le resulta las casi ocho horas que dura cada función.

“Hay algo curioso sobre lo agotador que resulta hacer esto. Es que estamos hablando de una obra que dura más de siete horas y media, y cada vez que termina el día tengo la impresión de que no ha sido del todo bueno. Son tantas horas, que después de hacer dos funciones en un día me quedo pensando: ‘Ha sido genial, pero también ha sido horrible'”, ha reflexionado sobre los sentimientos encontrados que le genera una producción que, entre ensayos y representaciones, le deja “exhausto”.

Sin embargo, el artista británico también asegura sentirse “culpable” cada vez que se deja llevar por los efectos del cansancio, que le impiden valorar lo suficiente la relevancia que contiene semejante desafío interpretativo para su carrera y prestigio profesional, así como el homenaje que supone ‘Angels in America’ hacia todos aquellos que perdieron la vida por culpa de la epidemia del Sida.

“Cada vez que me invaden esas sensaciones, me digo a mí mismo: ‘Cierra la boca’. Es todo un regalo y un privilegio poder honrar la memoria y la dignidad de quienes no pudieron superar la enfermedad, y también honrar a quienes sí que lograron salir adelante”, ha explicado en su entrevista a Variety.

En las escasas horas libres que le deja la exigente producción que lidera en las tablas neoyorquinas, Andrew se dedica exclusivamente a descansar y también a distraer su mente con cualquier tipo de contenido televisivo que no le obligue a forzar demasiado su aturdido cerebro.

“Después de atravesar una experiencia tan intensa, necesito algo de descompresión. Me gusta ver televisión estúpida, cualquier cosa que haya en Netflix, aunque no tiene por qué necesariamente estúpida. Ahora mismo estoy viendo ‘The Good Place’, y no hay nada estúpido en ella. Es una serie con un humor muy inteligente y muy divertida”, ha revelado.
