Star Wars se convierte en la segunda saga más taquillera de la historia tras superar a Harry Potter

Star Wars: Los últimos Jedi continúa rompiendo récords. La última entrega de la saga galáctica ya ha superado los mil millones de dólares en la taquilla mundial desde su estreno el pasado 15 de diciembre. De esta manera Star Wars ha conseguido convertirse en la segunda franquicia más taquillera de la historia superando a Harry Potter.

La saga Star Wars, formada por diez películas, ha recaudado hasta el momento más de 8.556 millones de dólares, y ha superado a Harry Potter, cuyas nueve entregas cinematográficas amasaron 8.539 millones. La franquicia mágica basada en las novelas de J.K. Rowling ocupaba el segundo puesto de la lista hasta ahora.

La próxima cinta de Star Wars que llegará a los cines es Solo: Una historia de Star Wars, el spin-off centrado en la juventud del gran amor de Leia Organa, al que da vida Alden Ehrenreich. El filme de Ron Howard se estrenará el próximo 25 de mayo y al igual que Rogue One, su trama está ambientada antes de los acontecimientos de la trama original.

En 2019 será el turno del Episodio IX, dirigido por J.J. Abrams. Por último, será el turno de la nueva trilogía dirigida por Rian Johnson, cuya producción comenzará en junio en Escocia.

La franquicia más taquillera de la historia es el Universo Cinematográfico Marvel, cuyos títulos han recaudado 13.500 millones de dólares. A pesar de las desorbitadas cifras de la saga creada por George Lucas, es muy complicado que consiga superar al conjunto de las cintas de la Casa de las Ideas, ya que, mientras que Lucasfilm tiene previsto lanzar un filme de Star Wars al año, Marvel Studios estrena varios títulos en el mismo período de tiempo.

Asimismo, la adquisición de Fox por parte de Disney, hará que Marvel Studios puedan amasar otros mil millones de dólares al año con los filmes de personajes como los X-Men o los Cuatro Fantásticos. Además, el 27 de abril llegará a la gran pantalla Vengadores: Infinity War, la reunión de los pesos pesados de Marvel, cuyo tráiler es el más visto de la historia de YouTube.
